Interesting article. Focusing on the output here is the wrong way to view such an exercise. This is as much about the input (prompts) where better prompts and inputs delivers better outcomes.

Curation of input and output is where the power of the concerning designers prevails.

The old saying still holds. Garbage in > garbage out.

Great point. In Midjourney, you can somewhat control for this issue through the "stylize" parameter. (In their terrible UI, this is the parameter --s, with values from 1 to 1,000.) Lower stylize values tend to generate images with less detail.
